Zone Cabling Fiber optic cable (as opposed to copper in Category 5) is run to each cluster and connected to users with Cat 5. In the event of a reconfiguration the fiber can be unplugged and relocated so the only Cat 5 cable that needs to be rethreaded is that between the end of the fiber and each workstation. Benefits:

Consolidation Points Requires one Category 5 cable per workstation. Cannot simply unplug and relocate. In the event of a reconfiguration, each effected cable must be removed back to the consolidation point and rethreaded.

Home Run Cabling One Category 5 cable is run to each workstation. In the event of a reconfiguration, each effected cable must be removed back to the entry point and rethreaded.
